Frequently Asked Questions

Plan Your Farm Visit

What happens if the weather is bad?

On the Farm

Most activities take place outdoors, and we love sharing the farm in every season. Many areas have covered canopies or sheltered spaces, allowing us to continue most events rain or shine.  In the event of severe weather or unsafe conditions, we’ll contact guests with any changes as soon as possible.

Off-Farm Events

For events held at your location, the host is responsible for providing adequate shelter or requesting a reschedule at least 48 hours in advance.

What should I wear?

  • Dress for the weather.

  • Wear comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

  • Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended.

  • Expect uneven ground, mud, hay, and curious farm animals.

What should I bring?

We recommend bringing:

  • Water

  • Sunscreen (on sunny days)

  • Bug spray (seasonally)

  • Your phone or camera for photos

  • Any event-specific items noted in your confirmation email (such as a yoga mat or gardening gloves)

What should I NOT bring or wear?

Please avoid bringing or wearing:

  • Dangling jewelry (earrings, necklaces, bracelets)

  • Loose hair (please tie long hair back—goats love to nibble)

  • Valuable or sentimental belongings

  • Anything you wouldn’t want covered in a little dirt, hay, or the occasional hoof print

Friendly Warning:

Our goats are curious and mischievous! They may:

  • Nibble clothing

  • Climb on laps

  • Investigate bags

  • Steal hats or loose items

  • Proudly run off with anything they think looks interesting

You’ll also likely meet:

  • Free-ranging chickens

  • Protective mama goats

  • Our very friendly livestock guardian dog, Ranger, who never turns down a belly rub

Will I get to interact with the animals?

Absolutely!

One of the best parts of visiting Holmesteading Farms is spending time with our animals.

Depending on your visit, you may have opportunities to:

  • Pet goats

  • Hold baby goats

  • Feed animals (when appropriate)

  • Cuddle with the goats

  • Learn about life on the farm

Our staff is always nearby to answer questions, assist with animal interactions, and help take photos.

Can I take photos and videos?

Absolutely!

We encourage you to capture your visit and share your memories.

Please tag Holmesteading Farms when posting on social media—we love seeing your photos!

From time to time, we also take photos and videos during events for marketing purposes. If you’d prefer not to appear in photos, simply let us know when you arrive, and we’ll gladly respect your request.

Is the farm responsible for damage to clothing or personal belongings?

By visiting Holmesteading Farms, you acknowledge that interactions with farm animals come with some unpredictability.

Holmesteading Farms is not responsible for damage to clothing, shoes, jewelry, phones, cameras, or other personal belongings caused by:

  • Farm animals

  • Mud

  • Weather

  • Normal farm conditions

We love hosting private groups for:

  • Birthday parties

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

If Holmesteading Farms cancels an event for any reason, guests will receive either:

  • A full refund, or

  • The option to transfer their reservation to a future date.

Guest Rescheduling

  • 48 hours or more before your event: Your deposit may be transferred to a future date.

  • Less than 48 hours before your event: A $100 rescheduling fee applies.

Guest Cancellations

  • More than 48 hours before your event: May be eligible for a future credit.

  • Within 48 hours of your event: Non-refundable but are typically transferable.

Because many on-farm experiences can continue under covered areas, weather alone does not typically qualify for cancellation. If severe weather creates unsafe conditions, we’ll communicate any schedule changes as soon as possible.

For off-site events, weather-related decisions are made in coordination with the event host.

We understand that life happens and always appreciate open communication. If you have questions about your reservation, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
